Back in the early 2000’s while trying to juggle a career in banking, a young and growing family, and a Labrador retriever named Tyke, I began to think that there must be a better way. 

One of my hobbies was retriever training.  I had grown up around dogs and had helped a few friends to train their dogs.  Tyke was the first dog that I owned as an adult and I had a huge amount of time and money invested in him.  When it came time to board him for vacations and business travel I was hard pressed to find a facility that I was satisfied with. Tyke was a high energy dog that was accustomed to running free several times a day.  I was unable to find a place that could look after him while I was away and was willing to provide the level of exercise and socialization that he was accustomed to.  The concept for Black Dog Pet Resort was soon researched and developed and we purchased our 10 acre property here in Clarington.
